Hong Kong Day 2

I woke up at 5 a.m. wide awake (right not it's about 2 pm and I'm really tired). I laid there thinking I didn't put too much detail in my blog so I just added a few more details to the last blog. I also changed the setting so anyone can comment. I ended up getting up early and sitting in the bathroom (so the light wouldn't wake Janet) and reading. I planned out our next couple of days.

This morning we took a tour offered by our hotel. We first went to Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island. We took some photos, but it was a little hazy. You can see across the bay to Kowloon, just not in these photos. :)

We then went to Aberdeen and took a water tour of the local fishing village. It was interesting to see the houseboats. There was quite a contrast to the old fishing boats and the new luxery boats in the harbor. Apparently, this part of Hong Kong has been featured in many movies including the second Lara Croft flick.

This is the dock we took off from and some of the fishing boats and house boats.

The tour then took us to a jewelry factory which really was just them trying to sell us nice jewelry. I think there were some good prices of nice jewelry but nothing we were interested in. We were pretty annoyed at this part of the tour!

We then drove along the beach which was beautiful, and ended at Stanley market. We walked around the market for about a half an hour. We bought some lunch at a bakery. We had really good quiche and a chocolate croissant that we ate on the bus on the way back.

We are back at the hotel. Janet is resting a few mintues then we need to pack. We will check out of the hotel, take a taxi to see the LDS temple, eat dinner, then head to the airport. Our flight tonight is very late into Bangkok. I'm really looking forward to Thailand! Hopefully, the hotel there will have computers as accessable as they have been here (almost right next to our room)

Wow, the pics look like a movie...How is the shopping? Did you find some cool stores? Isn't Hong Kong a place to find good fashion? What do I know about fashion anymore...

Wow, I can't believe the difference in those boats! Glad you had good lunch ;)
I heard so much about the Hong Kong temple after President Hinckley died. He was pretty creative in coming up with the design for such a crowded city. Wish I could see it too!
(your word verification is on, am I annoying?)

I've heard a lot about the smog in China (or at least the bigger cities) and it looks like from your pictures that this is the case. I know that some Olympic athletes (marathoners) are concerned about the air quality. They said China was going to shut down 10% of their gas stations a few months prior to the Olympics in hopes of clearing up the air. It seems like such a beautiful city and it's a shame to think they don't really ever get a clear day with bright blue skies. I guess people could say the same about me living in the Pacific Northwest with all the clouds for days and days in a row.

I loved the post and I love reading everyone else's questions for you too. Afton asked about the smog, it is bad? Like can you smell it or does it give you a headache.

Let me know if you see any Budas in Thailand. We would count how many were in a cab. We had one cab with 14. Did you take a cab in Hong Kong, Did they get you with the automatic door?

Hi Janet,
I hope I have the hang of this now, however,If you don't get this, then you will know I don't! I had Tracy's family over for dinner - how did I ever cook for this many people every day? After dinner Kristie, Tracy and I had such a good time looking at all the fun pictures and reading about your adventures. What beautiful places you are visiting -- memories that will last forever. Can't wait to hear more details. We miss you here at home (A LOT). I talked to Madge and told her about some of the things you are doing. She seemed pretty good. I missed Ray's call yesterday, so will call him tomorrow. This is probably too long. Can you access your email yet? Hope you are feeling well and don't hurt anyplace!! Love and miss you, Pam
