Hong Kong Day 1

We had breakfast at our hotel. It is included in the price and very good. They cook us eggs to order then we have all kinds of pastries, delicious fruit, cereal, meat, cheese, yogurt, dumplings, etc.

We walked for a while around our hotel this morning. We are very close to a lot of the markets; however, nothing opened until 10:30 so we just walked and took it in this morning. Elder Chuek sent his assistant to shop with us today. Her name is Rondy and she was adorable. She really helped us find some good deals. Here we are at the Jade market.

Rondy took us to one of her favorite places for lunch, Satay King. We had satay- which was sort of soupy bean noodleswith beef-my favorite; also two kinds of rice, one with seafood (a little spicy) and one with beef and veggies. I loved the food more than Janet, but we both liked it okay. Again, it was great to have Rondy with us as we would have never found this place (inside a building and up the stairs) and then never known what to order. Rondy tried to help us poor American with proper chopstick usage. I think we were pretty entertaining. :)

We found out that Rondy served her mission with Dave Sundahl and has remained friends with him. Such a small world! After lunch we shopped at the Ladies Market then back to our hotel for a little rest. Rondy went back to work.

This evening we went down to the Harbor. This was both of our favorite part of the day. We got there about sunset and walked along the water, enjoying the beautiful skyline. We stayed down there a couple of hours. It was a little chilly, but not bad. They have a light / laser show across the bay.

Along the harbor, they had a lot of displays for the upcoming Olympics.
I had to get my picture by the mascot playing tennis. :)
We're now back to the hotel and pretty tired. Tomorrow morning we are headed to the The Peak and to see some other sites. Rondy told us how to get to the temple so hopefully we'll have a little time to see that before we catch our plane to Bangkok.

Cool pics Bets!! Its normal for me to see you in exotic places-- weird to see Aunt Janet, hope she's surviving! :) Can you enjoy stuff without the excitment of seeing mom and dad getting in the way? Post more pics, they are great!

Wow. Absolutely fantastic. I'm more exited about reading about your day then any "favorite tv show."

Love ya, Crystalyn

Of course you would go to Hong Kong and find someone who knows Dave Sundahl. Why am I not surprised?! I am so stoked for you Bets. Enjoy your grand adventure and I'll especially be waiting for news from Cambodia.
Love ya! (I loved your friends post with the lyrics to "One night in Bangkok." You know that's exactly what I was thinking.)

Hi Janet and Betsy,

I have been thinking about you guys everyday and was waiting for email. Then Sindy called and asked if I had seen all the pictures of Janet's trip? She then showed me how to log on. Sounds like you guys are in a fairyland with all the beautiful and interesting things to see and eat to say the least. So glad you are having a wonderful time. Everything is ok here. Love, Pam
