We then took the water shuttle across the river to Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn). This is supposed to be a great place to watch the sun rise and set, but we figured since it's so hazy it wouldn't make much difference when we went. There are a lot of steps to climb up to the top of the temple with a nice view of the river and Bangkok from the top.
We got sucked into more shopping. We always think we've bought enough then we find more. I got some sandals at the market outside of Wat Arun.
I enjoyed the area down by the river. Our hotel is nice, but kind of out of the main area. There were a lot of food and fish vendors down there. Very much what I pictured Thailand to look like.
We took a taxi to Traimit (Golden Buddha). It is a solid gold Buddha that was covered in plaster to protect it, then forgotten. When they were tranferring it to this small temple some of the plaster broke off and they found this amazing gold statue.
It was very hot by this time. So we took a taxi to this huge mall. Nice A/C but really just a huge mall. Ü We got a drink and donut and walked around bit, then took a taxi back to the hotel.
I went and got a massage while Janet rested. Heidi and Steph, I'm dying to show you some of the crazy things they do in the massage. They stretch and crack you every which way. Fun. Kinda painful- and tickles at the same time. Ü
We are headed down to the weekend market for dinner and, yes, more shopping. We don't plan on buying anything, but I guess we'll see. We have to pay for anything over 33 lbs on our flights in and out of Cambodia so we're trying to hold back on all the purchases.
Tomorrow we will go to Jim Thompson's house, which is supposed to be a nice museum and example of Thai architecture. Then we will head to the airport and off to Cambodia.
We love getting everyone's comments. You anon people, sign your name so I can be happy to hear from you. Ü Janet can't remember her password to get her email. I don't know if anyone can go to her house, log on to her computer and figure it out. You can email it to me if you can. Thanks.

Thailand kind of seems like an odd place to be thinking about burritos :) The story of the golden buddha gets me thinking allegorically, or metaphorically..... I guess you can't ever get too many massages, but try not to come back to us with a limb broken off, or in a different location; that could get in the way of tennis and/or yoga....
I can't believe you like a massage that kind of tickles :) I can't wait for you to show me some "moves".
Those building are so beautiful. I can't believe the details and colors.
How come Buddah is thin in Thailand, but chubby in other countries. Is it all the same person they are trying to depict? These are beautiful pictures. The spires of some of those temples are just so ornate. I bet they are amazing to see close up.
Mom, Lone Peak did with the State Championship in basketball. As you know the semi-final against Davis was close, but the final against Bingham was a blow-out. Lone Peak won by 20. It was good to read your note on the blog. Glad you are doing well. The pictures are sure fun to see. Maren is practicing the piano, so don't worry about that. There are 48 kids trying out for the Lone Peak tennis team. Scott is down to the final cuts, but who knows? Take care. Love, Mike and Cassie
Hey Bets!
Wow! Nice summary of the trip. I love the pictures from Asia. It's soo interesting visiting places that are 10x older than our country!
hey, what's going on? How much longer are you going to be gone? I haven't seen you forever and I'm dyin!
okay, what I meant to say is - super cool pictures. Right now I'm visualizing myself being there with you...
Did you need me to check your mail for you???
You guys sound like you're enjoying yourselves--massages, golden buddahs, shopping, watching monks get "ordained" haha:) Anyway, try to keep those purchases under 30 lbs, I know how hard it is to only be able to buy 436 pairs of sandals:) Bring me home a golden buddah! JK:)
What an amazing place! America feels so boring all the sudden!
I like the pictures. I'm happy that you are going to see Grandma and Grandpa Hintze. I really wanted to come with you. I miss you.
Hey Bets - I'm still jealous! All those gold Buddas - wow! Please bring me back a nice snake from Thailand ... or maybe a frog. Thank you. Shari
Oh yeah, and we miss you! But don't worry - we're saving all the work for when you get back. Have a nice trip. Don't worry about us. We'll be fine.
Shari
Hi Betsy - around the big buddha, did you put a coin in every contatiner so they can afford burritos?
Hows the food? Yes, I am excited to hear about the massage! I guess you cant talk Janet into some work?! :) I love all the pictures. I bet you are having such a good time. Looks beautiful!
